Violence between people who knew each other drove much of the past week's news, from a Sunday night shooting in Albany to a kidnapping charge out of Waterbury. Federal prosecutors charged a West Rutland man who held positions of trust with children, and a Bennington man wanted on an attempted murder warrant surfaced in New York custody. Elsewhere it was the steady summer mix: impaired driving, conditions-of-release violations, burglary and theft.
Addison: Troopers responding to a reported family fight on Route 116 in Bristol about 3:15 p.m. Aug. 16 say Travis Heustis, 46, of Bristol had violated court-ordered conditions of release. He was arrested and lodged at Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility on $500 bail. Read more
Bennington: Griford Saupin, 49, of Bennington is held in New York awaiting extradition on a Vermont warrant, police said Aug. 11. He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime, reckless endangerment and criminal threatening. The charges stem from a July 25 incident at Park and Spring streets, where officers responding to a crash found the driver had been shot. Read more
Caledonia: Police arrested Joseph Greenwood, 46, who is homeless, after a vehicle was reported taken from Maple Center Motors in St. Johnsbury the morning of Aug. 15. Lyndonville police helped locate it at the Colonnade Inn. Greenwood is charged with operating without the owner's consent and violating conditions of release. Read more
Chittenden: Haily B. Peacock, 21, of Essex Junction faces a reckless endangerment charge after a gunshot was fired near College and Center streets in Burlington around 1:45 a.m. Aug. 16. Police say she pulled a handgun from her purse to check whether it was loaded and it discharged. Officers on foot patrol heard the shot and recovered evidence matching her account. Read more
Essex: David Zouzout, 40, of Cote-Saint-Luc, Quebec was taken into custody Aug. 16 at the Canaan port of entry after federal officers found an extraditable warrant out of Illinois alleging solicitation of child pornography, soliciting a sexual act from a minor and grooming. He was lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail. Read more
Franklin: Troopers stopped a vehicle on Route 105 in Sheldon about 10:41 p.m. Aug. 17 for multiple motor vehicle violations. Police say driver Jacob Madden, 32, showed indicators of impairment. He was cited for a first-offense DUI, with arraignment set for Sept. 1. Read more
Grand Isle: State police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 2 in Alburgh about 12:36 p.m. Aug. 16; a passenger was taken to Northwest Medical Center. Troopers recognized one driver, Molly White, 27, of Swanton, as the subject of an active cite-and-release warrant and cited her on a simple assault charge. Read more
Lamoille: The county sheriff's department published its blotter Aug. 13, covering July 31 through Aug. 6. Deputies logged 118 incidents, including 21 traffic stops, 22 directed patrols, nine suspicious events, five citizen disputes, one burglary and one theft. Entries included a trespass report on Jones Lane in Wolcott and a welfare check in Johnson. No named arrests appeared. Read more
Orange: Troopers responding to a reported family fight on Palmer Road in Williamstown at 10:16 p.m. Aug. 17 allege David Bussman, 42, of Williamstown caused pain and fear to a household member. He was charged with domestic assault committed in the presence of a child and released with a citation. Read more
Orleans: Police are investigating a shooting reported around 8:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at a home on Holliday Road in Albany. Troopers identified the wounded man as Timothy Magee, 45, of Albany, hospitalized in critical but stable condition; a second resident, Jessica Prue, 45, was physically assaulted. Investigators are seeking a person of interest last seen in an older-model green Subaru with Massachusetts plates. Read more
Rutland: Federal prosecutors announced Aug. 11 that Andrew Buzzell, 34, of West Rutland was charged by criminal complaint with distributing child sexual abuse material. They allege an account tied to him shared illicit files in 2024 and that he solicited images from an undercover FBI employee this June. Open-source information cited in the announcement identified him as a church elder and a state director for a children's ministry. Read more
Washington: Police allege Nubian Mohammed, 33, of Colchester unlawfully restrained household members in Waterbury on Aug. 16. He was located at a Colchester hotel, charged with kidnapping and unlawful restraint, and lodged without bail pending arraignment. Victims' names were withheld under department policy. Read more
Windham: Troopers investigating a citizen dispute on Rockingham Road the evening of Aug. 14 allege Lori J. Cyr-Dezan, 63, of Rutland City engaged in disorderly conduct, disturbed the peace by electronic communication and violated conditions of release. She was cited to appear in October and was not lodged. Read more
Windsor: Troopers stopped a vehicle on Camp Brook Road in Bethel around 12:19 a.m. Aug. 15 and say the driver showed signs of impairment. Alana M. Cushman, 39, of Rochester was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and released with a citation to appear in October. Read more

Berlin — Waitsfield store burglary, tips sought
An alarm brought troopers to the Champlain Farms on Main Street in Waitsfield about 4:52 a.m. Aug. 18. Police say two suspects arrived in what appears to be a Volkswagen sedan and took roughly $100 in cash plus cigarettes, vape pens and lighters. Images were released; no arrests announced. Read more
Royalton — Missing 19-year-old from Tunbridge
State police asked for help Aug. 18 locating Trinity Pelletier, 19, of Tunbridge, last seen in Hartford on Aug. 8. She is described as about 5 feet 5 inches, 115 pounds, with pink dyed hair and tattoos on her face and hands. Troopers cite concerns for her well-being and ask anyone with information to call 802-234-9933. Read more
Williston — Second-offense DUI refusal in Richmond
While investigating a single-vehicle crash in Richmond about 5:20 p.m. Aug. 15, troopers say a family member of the driver arrived at the scene heavily intoxicated. Jacobs R. Bowers, 41, of Jericho was taken into custody and cited for a second-offense DUI with refusal. Read more
Rutland — Trespass at a supermarket
Police say Scott William Tuepker, 51, of Rutland City trespassed and behaved in a disorderly manner at the Hannaford in Rutland Town about 7:55 a.m. Aug. 16. Troopers located him later and issued a citation returnable in September. Read more
