VT Weekend Guide

Spring’s knocking harder this week, and Vermont’s answering with live music, Oscar films, pond skimming, a few last hurrahs on the mountain, and at least one date with Anne Lamott. Here’s the rundown.


Friday, March 27

Joe Something | Foam Brewers, Burlington | 8pm | Free Vermont’s own Joe Something brings his gritty, genre-bending sound to the Burlington waterfront with an all-star local band. Free show, great beer, waterfront views. That’s a Friday night. foambrewers.com

Oscar-Nominated Short Films: Documentary | Catamount Arts, St. Johnsbury | 7pm The Northeast Kingdom’s cultural anchor is running the full slate of 2026 Oscar-nominated shorts this weekend. Documentary screening Friday night, Animated and Live Action follow through Sunday. If you haven’t made it to Catamount Arts yet this season, this is a great excuse. catamountarts.org

Short Film & Discussion with Christine and James Forni | Catamount Arts | 6pm Printmaker Christine Forni screens her work and talks craft before the Oscar shorts. A nice double feature for anyone spending Friday night in St. J.

A Doll’s House, Part 2 | Bennington Community Theater | 7pm Lucas Hnath’s sharp, funny sequel to Ibsen’s classic runs this weekend in Bennington. Good regional theater at 331 Main Street. Worth the drive south.

Live Music Après | Stark’s Pub, Sugarbush Resort, Warren | 2:30–5pm | Free Free live music to close out another Friday on the mountain. Local musicians, local crowd, Mad River Valley tradition. sugarbush.com

Fish Fry Friday | 1824 House, Waitsfield | 5–8pm Crispy battered cod, coleslaw, fries, tartar sauce. The Mad River Valley’s most reliable Friday ritual. 1824house.com

Feel the Wheel | Blockhouse Studio, Mad River Valley | 6–8pm Two-hour intro to pottery wheel throwing. Something different for a Friday night — walk away with something you made with your hands.

Saturday, March 28

Annual Pond Skim | Stratton Mountain Resort | 11:30am One of the great spectator events in Vermont skiing. Participants in full costume attempt to skim across a pond on skis and snowboards — judged on Best Costume, Best Crash, and Best Skim. Spots are sold out for competitors, but watching is free with a lift ticket. Helmets required to participate. stratton.com

MRG 30th Anniversary Celebration | Mad River Glen | 6:30–11pm Three decades of skier-owned independence is worth a party, and Mad River Glen is throwing one. This is the real deal — cooperatively owned, no snowmaking on half the mountain, and proud of it. Fundraiser format. madriverglen.com

Walt’s After Dark — The Last Walt’s | Glen House, Mt. Ellen | 4–7pm The final Walt’s After Dark of the season. Last chair, grilled cheese, local pour, live music, stars overhead. $6 beers. A proper goodbye to the ski season.

Aperol Spritz Party | Lincoln Peak Courtyard, Warren | 1–4pm Italian-inspired spring celebration with cocktails, giveaways, and a DJ. Sugarbush leaning into the season change.

The Grift | Stark’s Pub, Sugarbush | 7–10pm Booty-shaking grooves, improvisation, and original songs. One of the better Vermont bands working the après circuit right now.

MOONDOGS Live | afterthoughts, Waitsfield | 8pm | $10 Psychedelic rock in Waitsfield. Ten bucks.

Anne Lamott & Neal Allen in Conversation | Spruce Peak Arts, Stowe | Doors 6pm, Show 7pm Anne Lamott writes about the big things — alcoholism, motherhood, faith — with enough self-deprecating humor to make it land without preaching. She’s in conversation with Neal Allen for one night in Stowe. One of the more substantive events of the month. sprucepeakarts.org

Parsons Dance | Catamount Arts, St. Johnsbury | 7pm World-class contemporary dance company touring to the Northeast Kingdom. Catamount keeps punching above its weight class. catamountarts.org

Experience the Music of Queen | The Double E Theater, Essex Junction | Evening Vermont’s premier Queen tribute act — powerhouse vocals, tight musicianship, the full show. Good Saturday night option in Chittenden County.

BERTHA: Grateful Drag | Higher Ground, South Burlington | Evening Grateful Dead music meets drag performance. Only in Vermont. highergroundmusic.com

Town Hall Theater | Middlebury | 2pm & 7pm Two performances Saturday. Addison County’s anchor arts venue doing its thing. townhalltheater.org

The Wedding Singer | Casella Theater, Castleton University | 7pm The musical runs this weekend at Castleton’s Fine Arts Center. Students, faculty, and staff get in free; adults $10, seniors $5. Good community theater value in Rutland County. castleton.edu

Mad River Valley Community Egg Hunt | WCVT, Waitsfield | 10–11am | Free Free Easter egg hunt for the kids with refreshments. A good Saturday morning family move in the Mad River Valley.

Siber Sled Dogs Visit | Inklings Children’s Books, Stowe area | 11am–Noon Siberian Huskies come to the bookstore. Kids lose their minds in the best way.


Sunday, March 29

Mike Gordon & Kids That Fly SUM SUN | Higher Ground, South Burlington | Evening Phish bassist Mike Gordon doing his own thing — always worth a look for the jam-oriented crowd in Chittenden County. highergroundmusic.com

Mogul Challenge | Mad River Glen | 11am–3pm | Free to watch Ski and snowboard mogul competition on actual terrain — no artificial junk, pure mountain. Spectators welcome. Mad River Glen doing what Mad River Glen does.

Mt. Ellen Closing Champagne Cowbell Party | Green Mountain Lounge | 3–6pm Pop some bubbly, shoot a cork at a cowbell, and say goodbye to Mt. Ellen for the season. Classic Vermont ski area send-off.

Open Studio with Christine Forni | Catamount Arts, St. Johnsbury | 1pm Follow-up to Friday’s film screening — Forni opens her studio and demonstrates the printmaking process. catamountarts.org

Oscar Short Films: Documentary | Catamount Arts | 1:30pm Second weekend screening if you missed Friday night.

Concert at Grace Congregational | Rutland | 4pm Sunday afternoon classical concert featuring Fanfare by Vermont composer Erik Nielsen and other works. Grace Congregational Church, downtown Rutland. Free to attend.


The ski season is winding down, the sap is running, and Vermont is doing that thing it does in late March where you can’t quite tell if it’s still winter or already something else. Get out there while it’s still both.
