Good evening Rutland,
At the conclusion of todays recreation committee meeting (4/28/2025) I offered the following motion;
“Motion to recommend to the mayor the reconsideration of Kim Peters as Rutland City’s Recreation Superintendent”.
The motion unanimously passed 5-0 (committee members – clifford, tadio, davis, gillam, whitcomb).
There was no press present for the meeting so I want to provide my exact reason for making this motion.
The motion is not meant to be inflammatory despite the reality that given the sensitivity of this situation it will certainly be interpreted that way. I made the motion based on all available information that I have, the concerns raised by multiple members of the community (who I believe I am elected to represent their interests to the best of my ability), and with consideration to what I believe the dire reality faced by the recreation department is currently. The motion is not meant to force any action but instead to signify that we are in an extremely difficult situation and I firmly believe the responsible action is to holistically review what the next right steps may be, and I believe that includes our former recreation director, Peters.
Rutland recreation is one of the most remarkable aspects of Rutland City and to watch its impending deterioration is not something I feel I can stand by and watch. We need an all hands on deck approach and a willingness to consider any and all avenues moving forward to resolve the challenges we now face.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and as always, please feel free to reach out with questions, suggestions, and conversation.
