John Klar challenges VTDigger’s 501(c)(3) tax status

VTDigger (Vermont Journalism Trust) is Vermont’s largest media outlet, and benefits from tax-exempt status (and solicits donations as tax deductible) as a qualified Sec. 501(c)(3) organization, stating yearly on its Form 990 that :

“THE MISSION OF VERMONT JOURNALISM TRUST AND VTDIGGER IS TO PRODUCE RIGOROUS JOURNALISM THAT EXPLAINS COMPLEX ISSUES, HOLDS THE GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABLE TO THE PUBLIC, AND ENGAGES VERMONTERS IN THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS.”

This is the OPPOSITE of what VTDigger actually does. Instead, it nullifies dissenting opinions, deceives the public by feigning a journalistic integrity it lacks, actively controverts the democratic process by occluding and/or distorting the positions and/or personal characters of political candidates it opposes, and assists government bureaucracy to impose a progressive agenda.

Examples of this last category include:

— Labeling Vermont police and its judicial system as racist based on incarceration rates of People of Color while refusing to investigate the proportion of inmates who have out-of-state convictions or were out-of-state residents when apprehended. This has benefited AG TJ Donovan and other progressive voices, while maligning Vermont’s citizenry and culture. It has advanced legislation and public expenditures without “digging” for truth — quite the opposite.

— Zealous advocacy for extremist abortion laws, enabling controversial legislation by obscuring and silencing legitimate voices of protest, maligning Catholic Bishop Coyne and others who have spoken truth, refusing to retract false claims it has published, and personally slandering citizens of strong moral character.

— Advancing a tyrannical agenda to tax and dominate Vermonters based on sketchy claims of “the end of the world” due to a “climate crisis,” thereby assisting special corporate interests, out-of-state agitators, and exploding bureaucratic proliferation at the expense of fiscal integrity, constitutional rights, and free discussion of ideas.

John Klar is a former tax attorney. He has filed a Form 13909 “Tax-Exempt Organization Complaint (Referral)” with the Internal Revenue Service, and invites fellow Vermonters who have personally experienced the underhanded deception (fraud) of vtdigger’s practices to file complaints recounting their own insights. That Form is attached, together with cover letter and supporting documentation.

It is fraudulent to feign journalistic ethics with one hand, while aggressively advancing an ideological agenda with the other. It is especially fraudulent to do so with taxpayer funds, while oppressing the rights and freedoms of taxpayers, against viable candidates for office.

Vermont WILL have a free election in 2020, and truth will out.

  1. The sole arbiter of the question of vtdigger’s 501(c)(3) status is the Internal Revenue Service and all those who feel that they have violated their privilege should take the time to file a written complaint and file the required Form 13909 Tax-Exempt Organization Complaint (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f13909.pdf.) to Internal Revenue Service, EO Classification, Mail Code 4910DAL, 1100 Commerce Street Dallas, TX 75242-1198.

Further the IRS provides certain incentives for reporting activities that may have prevented the proper payment of taxes to the Federal Government – such original information is encouraged by offering a reward for reporting such activity by way of Form 211 “Application for Award for Original Information” (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f211.pdf.) which, once completed, is submitted to: Internal Revenue Service Whistleblower Office – ICE 1973 N. Rulon White Blvd. M/S 4110 Ogden, UT 84404

I would encourage all who believe Anne Galloway and her compatriots have overstepped the boundaries for operating their non-partisan non-profit to report their experiences to the IRS for consideration.
