A Message From the Vt Federation of Sportsmen

Please call House Speaker Mitzi Johnson at 802-828-2245 and leave the message. No to H.610, a bill that needlessly violates Vermont gun owners rights. We are frustrated that our concerns regarding the legal defects in the bill are being ignored and that the bill is still being pushed through the House Judiciary Committee

Yesterday afternoon three of us from the Vermont Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs met to review and finalize Chris Bradley’s
draft of his testimony on H.610 scheduled for 9 AM this morning. At 4:56 PM, 16 minutes after we broke up, a new draft of
H.610 was published on the House Judiciary Committee web site.

Chris Bradley’s testimony of today is the first attachment to this E-mail.

H.610 is sponsored House by Judiciary Chair Maxine Grad (D) and Committee Ranking Member Martin LaLonde (D)

“Amy’s Story” (listen below): testimony several years ago before the Burlington City Council on their sought gun control ordinances.

Amy’s Story

Draft 5.1 H.610

It takes time to research and craft a response to such a complex and extensive draft of legislature. By pushing this new draft of H.610 at the very end of the business day, it denies those who aren’t warned of the development of a new draft and the opportunity to review and respond. In fact, it makes it likely they will not see the new draft until the following day, when they are scheduled to testify.

H.610 is rife with deficiencies of “due process” and other structural problems. This is why so many gun rights folks have
testified in opposition to the bill. Chief Judge Brian Grearson has testified as to legal problems with the bill and its drafts.

H.610 would alter the terms of the legislation in S.221, that became designated as Act 97, and became effective on April 11,

  1. Act 97 has barely been the law for a year and yet gun control supporters are back for more restrictions. They lack data to support amending the current law. They simply want new law, as pushed by national gun control groups.
