John Klar
Announcements Statehouse

Vt Republican Candidate for Governor

John Klar will announce his Republican candidacy for Vermont Governor at noon on Monday, October 28, at the State House. John seeks the support of true Vermonters (whether born here or not) to pursue an innovative, detailed agenda which will address our state’s most challenging and complex problems, to the benefit of all.

Vermont has unique economic and cultural problems, and the national red/blue schism must not be permitted to create gridlock that hurts us all. Vermont’s election must not be reduced to a mere referendum on Donald Trump. This policy list is for ALL Vermonters, and designed to encourage new GOP candidates for the House and Senate in 2020.

John has farmed in Vermont for more than twenty years. He has raised cows, swine, sheep, goats, horses, and made artisanal cheeses.  He writes regularly for The Newport Daily Express, American Thinker, Liberty Nation, True North Reports, Ethan Allen Institute, vtdigger, and others. He is the former pastor of the First Congregational Church of Westfield. He has been admitted to the Connecticut Bar since 1989, and is an experienced former tax attorney with PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

The policy list presented for Vermonters’ consideration has been labeled an “agripublican” plan. But this is very much NOT a new party — it is a reinvigoration, incorporating many months of research and conversations with Vermonters. Farmers get hard jobs done, and Vermont is an agri-culture. It’s high time regular Vermonters held a loud enough voice to be heard in Montpelier.

The key (interconnected) points of the agripublican plan are:

— improve economic conditions by reducing taxes, honestly addressing state pension deficits, repealing and replacing Act 250, opposing new (carbon) taxes, and reducing burdensome regulations in order to improve our state’s business climate.

— Repeal Act 46, and fashion a path to preserve local schools.

— Improve progress in the opioid crisis, especially by assisting those people who desire to eliminate Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) from their lives.
